If you are in Bangalore then it is obligatory to sample the nightlife. There is no lack of choices in the form of pubs, bars and restaurants but if you want something simple and nice then it is Richie Rich you should be heading for. It is heavenly delights that lie in wait for veggie lovers. Sorry, non-veggies, go look elsewhere.
A bit of history
There was a Richy Rich in RS Puram much favored by students and known for it’s slurpily lip smacking ice creams. It was operating since 1977 under Mr. R Dileep who closed it down in 2007 after its family run dairy unit was shut down but his son, Vaishnav D infused it with new life and the new avatar operates on Race Course, just opposite Jayam’s Hall. They have a branch at Saravanampatti. From ice creams the parlor has graduated to more serious foods like vegetable burgers, samosas, cutlets and bread cholas. However, ice creams still is the cream of the food offering with exotic delights that include Ferrero Rocher, blueberry, fig, honey and real mango. This should be perfect to go along with home baked soufflé or cake. How do you get there? It is easy. Just get a bike from Ziphop bikes for rent in Bangalore or Ziphop self drive car in Bangalore and drive right up to the place.
What all to do
Gorge. That’s right. On vegetarian stuff that is wholesome, tasty and nutritious. Even the bred that goes into burgers and sandwiches is made at home. Even the spice mix is proprietary. So get down to the serious business of eating comfort foods like bread chola or crisp cutlet. Introduce some variation with a samosa. For accompaniment you can pick cold coffee or milk shakes. Tough, leather clad Harley chuggers may shy away from the place but it is all about indulging yourself, bringing back a bit of nostalgia and letting the child in you come out and have his fill of ice cream, burger and milkshake or falooda. You could have a hearty meal of pav bhaji, vegetable pulao or other delights. These include items like corn potato fry, chaats, paneer fry, spring rolls and Richie Rich special fry for starters followed by Kashmiri tawa pulao, paneer pulao or cheese tawa pulao. End it with a sundae, a delectable dessert to give you a feeling of utter repletion. There are 29 varieties of sundaes not to speak of other rich and delectable desserts.
